Al Nasser (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 35-year old American 185cm guard Mark Lyons (college: Arizona). He is the second foreign player in the roster as Senegalese Ibrahima Thomas signed here earlier.
He played most recently at Al Ahly Cairo in Egyptian Superleague.
He played in the final of Egyptian League in 2024. He was voted to Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Honorable Mention in 2024.
The previous (2023) summer he played at Dorados in Mexican LNBP where in four games he recorded 12.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.5apg and 1.3spg in 2023 year.
Lyons has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2013.
He is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America) in fourteen different countries. Lyons has played previously professionally in Belgium (Spirou Charleroi), China (Guizhou), Croatia, France, Greece (Charilaos), Israel (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Effie Capital Rishon Le-Zion, Ironi Nahariya and Elitzur Ironi Ashkelon), Italy (Pesaro), Lebanon (Al Riyadi and Homentmen), Mexico, Puerto Rico (Piratas), Russia (Enisey), Saudi Arabia (Al Hilal), Turkey (Gaziantep, Usak and Balikesir Buyuksehir Belediyespor) and The Basketball Tournament (Armored Athlete, Team Fancy and Zip Em Up).
He graduated from University of Arizona in 2013 and it will be his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball. Lyons played in the final of Egyptian League in 2024. He was selected to Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Honorable Mention in 2024. Lyons played also for Xavier University for 4 years.
