University of California at Los Angeles strengthened their roster with the addition of 22-year-old Slovenian international 6-6 forward Sergej Macura for the upcoming season. He is the second foreign player on the roster, as Bosnia and Herzegovina's Filip Jovic signed earlier. Originally from Ljubljana, Slovenia, Macura is moving from Mississippi State University, where he played for one year. Last season, in 28 games, he recorded 5.0ppg and 4.8rpg.
He played at Grupo Eleyco Baskonia 2nd team between 2020-23, Nutrispoint Ilirija Ljubljana during 2023-24, and then at BC Mega Superbet Beograd for one season. He helped his team make it to the Spanish EBA Final Stage Group 3 Championship in 2022 and the Spanish U19 Championship Semifinals in 2021. Macura was also voted to Eurobasket.com All-Alpe Adria Cup Honorable Mention and Eurobasket.com All-FIBA U20 EuroBasket Honorable Mention in 2024. He helped his team make it to the Serbian Cup Semifinals in 2025.
Macura has been a member of the Slovenian international program for several years. He has been consistently called up to the Slovenian senior team since 2025 and two years ago for the U22 National Team.
