Newly promoted Akranes IA (Subway League) strengthened their roster with the addition of 29-year-old Serbian ex-international 189cm point guard Ilija Djokovic. He was the best passer at Jahorina in Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I last season, where in 7 games he recorded 11.4ppg, 3.4rpg, and 4.4apg. Djokovic also played for KK Mornar-Barsko Zlato Bar (Erste Liga) in the Montenegrin league.
Djokovic was also a member of the Serbian international program for some years. He played for Serbian Senior National Team between 2017 and 2019 and previously for the Under 20 National Team back in 2016.
Djokovic is a very experienced player. He has played in Croatia (Split), Hungary (Honved), Montenegro, Romania (Timisoara), and Serbia (KK Borac Cacak, Jagodina, and KK FMP SoccerBet Beograd).
In addition to his many awards, Djokovic played in the final of the Croatian Premijer Liga in 2021. He was also voted the Eurobasket.com All-Adriatic League 2 Guard of the Year in 2018.
