Newly promoted Akranes IA (Subway League) strengthened their roster with the addition of 26-year-old American 203cm forward Darnell Cowart (college: Murray State) for the 2025-26 season. He was the top scorer at Hawks in the New Zealand NBL league. In 11 games he recently played, he recorded very impressive stats: 16.9ppg, 8.4rpg, 5.0apg, and 1.5spg last season. Last season, he played at Elitzur Yavne (National League) in the Israeli league. He also spent the pre-season at KB Peja (Superliga) in the Kosovan league.
Cowart is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career, he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Latin America, and North America) in nine different countries. He has played professionally in Chile (CD Espanol Osorno), Israel, Mexico (Tijuana Zonkeys), Spain (Santfeliuenc), NBA G League (Memphis Hustle), The Basketball Tournament (Eberlein Drive), NBA Summer League (Memphis Grizzlies), and TBL (Wichita SK).
Cowart has played in the final of the OVC Tournament in 2020, and he was also part of the OVC All-Tournament Team in 2019.
He graduated from Murray State in 2020 and it'll be his sixth season in pro basketball. Cowart played for other colleges such as Cowley County College, Glendale Community College Maricopa.
