LWD Basket Leeuwarden (DBL) signed 28-year-old American 188cm point guard Matt Frierson (college: Citadel). It is his return to Leeuwarden as he previously played there. He began the season at Palmer Basquet Mallorca Palma in Spanish Primera FEB. In 5 games, he averaged 6.4ppg, 1.2rpg, and 1.0apg. Last season, he played for LWD Basket Leeuwarden, appearing in 5 games in the Dutch DBL with 11.2ppg and 1.0apg, helping them reach the semifinals.
He is a very experienced player, thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in five different countries playing on four different continents. Frierson is familiar with European, Latin American, Australian, and of course North American leagues. He has played professionally in Australia (Hawks), Brazil (Campo Mourao), Germany (Telekom Baskets, Eisbaeren Bremerhaven, and Telekom Baskets Bonn 2nd team), and ABA (Maryland B.).
Frierson's team finished as the regular season runner-up in the German Regionalliga (West Group) in 2022. He was voted the HoopsHD.com SoCon 6th Man of the Year during his college time in 2018.
He graduated from Citadel in 2019 and it's his 7th season in pro basketball.
