Unahotels Reggio Emilia (Serie A) signed 28-year-old Colombian international 211cm center Jaime Echenique (college: Wichita State) for the upcoming season. He excelled as the best rebounder at Petkim in the Turkish BSL league last season, averaging 11.3ppg and 5.0rpg in 29 games. Echenique also showcased his skills in the Basketball Champions League, where he averaged 10.1ppg and 4.2rpg in 17 games. In the previous (2023-24) season, he played for ASP Promitheas Patras (GBL) in the Greek league. Echenique has been a regular member of the Colombian Senior National Team since 2020.
He is a very experienced player. Echenique has played professionally in Greece, Lithuania (Rytas), Spain (Gipuzkoa), NBA (Washington Wizards), NBA G League (Capital City Go-Go and Motor City Cruise), and NBA Summer League (Washington Wizards and Portland Trail Blazers).
Among many awards, his team made it to the Greek Cup Final Four in 2024. He was voted to Latinbasket.com All-FIBA AmeriCup Honorable Mention back in 2022.
Echenique graduated from Wichita State in 2020 and it'll be his sixth season in pro basketball. He played also for Trinity Valley Community College for 2 years.
