Cockburn Cougars (NBL One) signed Akeem Springs, a 32-year-old American guard standing at 193cm, who played college basketball at Minnesota. Springs, who played for Geraldton Buccaneers last summer, put up impressive numbers during his 27 games in Australia, averaging 17.3ppg, 4.0rpg, 2.6apg, and 1.1spg. He played a key role in helping his team clinch the NBL1 West title, despite finishing the regular season in second place.
Springs is a very experienced player. He has traveled extensively during his pro career, playing in five different countries on four different continents (Asia, Latin America, Africa, and North America). Springs has played professionally between Mexico (Tijuana Zonkeys), Qatar (Al Gharafa), South Africa (Tigers), NBA G League (SLC Stars and Cleveland Charge), and TBL (Kokomo Bobkats).
Among many awards, he was voted Afrobasket.com All-South African BNL Guard of the Year back in 2023.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2017 and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball. Springs played for other colleges such as the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and Northern Illinois University.
